Prince William Breaks Royal Tradition with Bold Legal Move

Prince William has reportedly clashed with royal convention by hiring his late mother’s former lawyer. According to the Daily Mail, the future king recently chose Mishcon de Reya—a top UK law firm known for representing Princess Diana—to handle some of his personal affairs.

A Familiar Name with Deep Royal Ties

Princess Diana hired Mishcon de Reya in 1996 to oversee her divorce from Prince Charles, now King Charles III. Specifically, she worked with the firm’s deputy chairman, Anthony Julius, throughout the highly publicized split.

A Shift from Longtime Royal Legal Team

Now 42, William was only 15 when his mother died. Yet he has turned to her trusted legal team in recent weeks. This marks a clear break from his long-standing relationship with Harbottle & Lewis, the firm that has advised the royal family for decades.

William previously relied on Gerrard Tyrrell, a partner at Harbottle & Lewis, during various legal matters. However, he has now chosen Julius to represent him, following in his mother’s footsteps.

Not a Divorce, But a Statement

Despite the move, there is no indication that William plans to separate from his wife, Kate Middleton. Still, the decision is widely seen as a significant departure from royal tradition.

“He Wants to Be His Own Man”

A source told the New York Post:

“William wanted to strike out on his own. He did not want to continue using his father’s lawyers. It’s as simple as that. He wants to be his own man.”

Another insider added:

William’s decision to break away from his father’s legal advisers signals that he’s not afraid to shake up the status quo behind palace walls.”
