My grandmother’s unusual habit involving onions!

Onions and cloves, common kitchen staples, also serve as an effective natural remedy for repelling insects like flies and mosquitoes. This old-fashioned trick is a safe, chemical-free alternative to commercial repellents and has been used in many cultures.

Onions release sulfur-based compounds when cut, while cloves contain eugenol — both of which have strong scents that insects dislike. When combined, they produce a powerful aroma that helps keep pests away.

To make this repellent, cut an onion in half or quarters and insert several cloves into the exposed surface. Place it near doors, windows, or bug-prone areas.

Not only does it help deter insects, but it can also subtly freshen the air in your home. This method is eco-friendly, inexpensive, and safe for families, including those with pets or small children. It’s a simple, natural way to maintain a bug-free home.
